Primary flavors

Strawberry

A perfectly ripe plucked strawberry offers the quintessence of flavor. And what a flavor! Juicy. Tangy. Fresh. While perhaps not equal to the pleasure of summer foraging, finding notes of strawberry in wine yields delight in good measure.

Cherry

Fruit flavors in red wines typically fall into two different categories: red fruit and black fruit flavors. Cherry flavour falls into the red fruit categories but the cherry flavours span from red to black, and fresh to sweet. Confusing! Red Cherries can typically be found in young Grenache. Black Cherries are found in mature Pinot Noir.

Peach

For the purposes of understanding stone fruit flavors in wine, we stick to peaches and apricots for white wines. If you like brunch bellinis or dried apricots on a charcuterie board, then you'll like this flavour profile.

Secondary flavors

Honey

The main defining factors of honey are its sweetness and its viscosity. Therefore as a tasting note it's often applied to sweeter wines or dessert wines, which are more syrupy in taste and density than other wines.

Lime

Wines with high acidity taste tart and zesty. White wines are often described with characteristics similar to lemon or lime juice.
